The Ongoing Saga of Weight Loss...

I think I have it right this time though...I'm going through a weight loss center with our local hospital, on the road to lap band surgery.
It all started with a partial hysterectomy, after which I gained about 15 pounds. In an effort to lose that weight, I ended up going from 130 to 160 in just a year.
Over the next five years I've struggled with arthritis in both knees, severe obstructive sleep apnea and hypothyroid, and the final blast - I quit smoking, weighing in at over 200# on my little 5' frame.
Over these years I tried NutriSystem, Weight Watchers, eDiets, South Beach, Dr. Atkins - all to absolutely no avail. A lot of it had to do with my right knee being diagnosed with arthrofibrosis (complete loss of motion) leading to the inability to do proper exercise, and an ever-increasing loss of self-esteem and self-worth due to my ever-enlarging body.
I finally had enough when I outgrew just about everything in my closet and the scale tipped the 205# mark - right before our anniversary wedding ceremony. (When we got our photos back, I called my daughter and just cried and cried.)
I know a lot has to do with attitude and the thought process but for me, it's going to take a lot more because it all happened so quickly and with so many medical conditions that it's really just run me into the ground.
But I finally realized I just could not do this alone, so along with trying some at-home mental adjustments, and buying myself an elliptical machine, I signed up with the local hospital. I'll have to see a psychologist, which will probably be one of the best things for me, plus I'll be with a lot of other people who have a lot more weight to lose than me.
I'll be able to get help, and help other people along our journey to weight loss.
And in the meantime, I have lost 8# with my new nutrition program and I'm starting to feel a little better about myself too.

Sherri here...Thank you so much for sharing your photo with me. You are absolutely right, it's those at home mental adjustments that make all the difference. We can try all of the diet programs out there and they work for a while but, we can be our own worst enemy when it comes to the things we say to ourselves along the way.
Those mental adjustments will change your self talk so that it is more supportive. Then it just becomes a way of life.
I wish you the best of luck in your journey. Keep us posted with your success.
