Fear Of Medical Procedures And Hypnosis
by Karen
Using Hypnosis To Overcome Fear
I'm wondering if hypnosis might help me overcome a fear of medical procedures. I haven't had any of a major nature, but have always had a problem with passing out at dentists & doctors offices :- It's becoming something of a problem for me, as my fear of fainting is preventing me facing even routine appointments! thanks, Karen
DJ's Answer: Hypnosis can definitely help you with this fear. Many times fears can be traced back to a particular moment in time where something happened to you that associated this emotional reaction to medical procedures. It might have been something that you were not consciously aware of at the moment it happened.
You may have been affected by stress from something else in your life that happened around the same time you were on your way to a doctor's office. The stress and fear you felt from something else would then be directly associated with the doctor's office in your subconscious mind. Many people don't realize the transfer of stress and fear can occur in this manner.
I have the same problem. Pretty much every time I have to have a shot or biopsy I pass out. I want to cure this because I know I need to go to the doctor but my fear pf passing out makes me not want to go. Is it physical or psychological?

In Your Mind by: Sherri
As a certified hypnotist and NLP practitioner, of course I would say that it is all in your mind.
Like DJ said, your mind may have made some sort of emotional connection to going to the doctor and 'anchored' the fear in place. Now when it's time for a doctor or medical appointment, your subconscious mind is focused on the fear.
Find a quiet place and use self hypnosis to go back in time, perhaps to your early childhood, and see if you can find the root cause. You might be surprised to find that it was an innocent comment made by an adult that you had misunderstood. A comment that you can now see actually meant something else.
